OXO Good Grips Digital Kitchen Scale

First of all here’s the link to the winner, available on Amazon, and measures up to 11 lbs (5 kg): OXO Digital Stainless Steel Kitchen Scale

Not all kitchen scales are created equal, and kitchen scales are an essential tool for baking these days. Kitchen scales are designed to have a wide measurement range, like up to 10-20 lbs in some cases. They are also designed for simplicity and ease of use and usually just include a “tare” (or zero) feature and a unit change feature. In almost all cases they cannot be recalibrated as that would require supplying standard weights and is reserved for lab scales which are even more accurate and precise. Lab scales also tend to have much more narrow dynamic ranges (e.g., up to maybe 10-100g) and measure out to several decimal places where that level accuracy at very low weights matters. The weight featured in my instagram reel is my own and did not come with the scales.

I did an accuracy and reproducibility test on Instagram comparing the OXO Good Grips Kitchen scale to the KOIOS kitchen scale and the OXO came out the clear winner. It is not only accurate and reproducible at relatively low weights but comes in at a reasonable price of ~$50 for a tool that will last a long time and be used a lot. I started out with the KOIOS scale, which is about half the price, but it is also probably half the quality and only does reasonably well at higher weights (e.g., >200 g). Check out the instagram reel posted 11/28/24 for the details.
